Know Your Land Series

At the heart of this endeavor is the series’ mission: to empower our community with knowledge about Harvard’s natural environments. By understanding how to care for and protect our land, we can ensure its health and beauty for generations to come.

Harvard’s Climate Initiative Committee launched a new series of events in the Fall of 2023.

The series includes guided Forest Walks through conservation land where local forestry experts discuss and point out examples of various signs of health and disease in our forests. Participants learn how to recognize hallmarks of a robust forest and identify invasive species.

We are now developing another part of the series where Land Coaches will visit homes where the owners and neighbors will be given free consultations on improvements that they can make in managing their properties. Subjects include invasive plant identification and management, use of native plant species, and lawn reduction, among other site specific situations.
