Take Action
You Can Help
Everyone can make a difference when it comes to climate change.
We can agree that it’s warming, it’s bad, but we can fix it. Our HarvardEnergize module has 20 recommendations of what you can do. By taking action on just a few, you can make a significant difference. Detailed information is provided for each action, the steps you can take to achieve each action, and additional information for those who like to dig deeper. Testimonials by other residents provide additional information on what they did, what vendor they may have used and how they feel about the results.
How can you get a “We’re Going Green” flag? When you complete at least two actions and post testimonials about them, we will plant a Going Green flag roadside at your house. This encourages others to join you in addressing climate change.
Make Your Plan
Making a plan to reduce your carbon footprint starts here! Our HarvardEnergize module has 20 actions you can pick from.
We provide detailed information on each action, steps to take to achieve the actions, and additional information for those who like to dig deeper. To make your plan, look at the 20 actions and check off those you may have already DONE and those you want TO DO. For those that you have done, you will see how much carbon you saved, either in terms of metric tons, trees planted, or cars taken off the road. It’s a great way to motivate yourself into taking action. You can check back once you’ve completed an action, see its impact, and select others. So jump in and see what you’ve done and what you can do!
Track Your Progress
Once you have taken some actions on the HarvardEnergize module, you can track your progress.
Every time you complete an action, you can see how much carbon you saved in terms of metric tons, trees planted, or cars taken off the road. We recommend that you check back every couple of months to mark off what you have completed and possibly pick another action to complete. We have goals for 2030 for the number of Harvard households taking action and the number of actions to be completed. Our goals are for 1025 households (approximately half of Harvard) and 4000 actions. As of 2024, we are almost half way there. By participating and recording your accomplishments, we can all see how close we are to meeting these goals. Join us, your friends, and neighbors, to help us reach these goals!
Get Your Own Going Green Flag
Join Our “We Are Going Green” Flag Initiative
Many individual actions to address climate change often go unnoticed. Installing heat pumps, solar panels, and energy saving power strips, composting and planting native gardens are generally hidden from public view. But being visible can encourage others to take positive steps to reduce their carbon footprint. The Going Green flags make the invisible visible. Planted roadside, they highlight households that have taken action. Everyone can get one, once you have completed some simple steps below.
