Join the Bromfield Green Team at Volunteers Hall to learn more about solar. Vendors and solar coaches will be present for free consultations.

Who: Students representing the Bromfield Green Team are hosting the solar seminar

What: We are educating people on solar energy, both solar panels and solar farms to increase the percentage of people that have solar on their homes or participate in a solar farm

When: April 11th 2-4 pm

Where: Volunteer’s Hall at the Harvard Public Library – 4 Pond Road, Harvard, MA

Why: Despite the increase in awareness of the benefits of renewable energy, specifically green energy, Harvard has not yet reached its goal for the percentage of people that have solar energy systems, causing a continued dependence on fossil fuels, increased carbon footprint, and high energy costs.

The Bromfield Green Team has selected “Residential Solar” as the subject for their MassEnergize Youth Climate Solutions Challenge event. Bromfield’s Green Team is one of 11 school teams statewide who are participating in the Challenge. By hosting this event, the Team hopes they can help Harvard achieve its goal to increase the percentage of homes using solar energy systems, decreasing the use of fossil fuels and carbon footprint, as well as lowering energy costs.

Agenda

• Presentation about solar, given by the students
• Presentation of the cost, benefit and success of solar projects by local resident speakers
• Meeting with solar ‘coaches’ from Harvard
• Meeting with solar panel installers/vendors
• Options for joining a solar farm, as an alternative to home solar installation

Registration is requested but not required. Register HERE

Refreshments will be served.

Background

The MassEnergize Youth Climate Solutions Challenge is a hands-on program that empowers students across Massachusetts to design and lead a local clean energy climate campaign. Teams received seed grants, mentorship, and a chance to earn cash awards for their School Green Teams. The Climate Initiative Committee is excited to support members of the next generation who understand how seriously climate change will affect them, even though they are not yet the ones able to make changes of large impact, such as buying solar panels, heat pumps, or EV’s. They have turned their focus to actions with smaller impact, such as unplugging appliances, turning off lights, recycling and composting. They hope the Residential Solar Event will expand on these efforts by convincing homeowners to take the next steps toward a green Harvard.
